Mama Lou’s in QC, Finally!
Been seeing a lot of my friends from the South post mouthwatering Italian dishes from this restaurant called Mama Lou’s. It has been the word of mouth in terms of top quality Italian food.
Even though most of them saw us waiting outside for a long time, no one from the staff approached us for the whole 20 minutes that we were just outside. The restaurant had no queue nor it was full inside that time. Good thing that there were chairs outside but it was a bit uncomfortable to sit outside for that long.
I was saddened back then for Mama Lou’s can only be found south of Metro Manila.
People from QC like me does not have the luxury of time to travel that far due to the horrible traffic situations within our city and the surrounding cities as well.
Lo and behold, a few months later a branch of Mama Lou’s opened at U.P. Town Center.
Was able to try their branch at U.P Town Center with my family when we celebrated our parent’s anniversary.
I had a reservation through the Booky App with only Php 200 off, just to be sure that we would be able to sit down as we arrive. Also, who does not like a few Pesos off anyway? Booky is life.
Me and my husband arrived 20 minutes earlier, we waited outside for our other family members to arrive.
(Yes, Outside)
Even though most of them saw us waiting outside for a long time, no one from the staff approached us for the whole 20 minutes that we were just outside. The restaurant had no queue nor it was full inside that time. Good thing that there were chairs outside but it was a bit uncomfortable to sit outside for that long.
I also did my part and tried to get the attention of the staffs near the entrance door to check if our table is ready but I got no response, only looks (not the nice type of glances).
Did not want to ruin the night so I just waited patiently outside. When we were already complete, that was the time when I immediately headed inside to directly talk to someone from staff, told her that I have been waiting for too long outside yet no one had approached me regarding my table reservation. No apologies and valid reasons were given, I was annoyed by the situation but I still handled it as if nothing happened since my family was there for a special reason.
Despite of the mishaps, we continued to order and forget about what just happened.
A different staff approached us and took our orders. He was way better on handling customers. He saved the night indeed.
We got the City Sampler (Php 495+) for starters. It has Wings, Calamari, Sausages, Nachos, and dips. As simple and as common as these food sounds, they are surprisingly good.
For Pastas, We ordered their Vesuvio, Italian Sardine, and their famous Truffle Mac n’ Cheese. All of these 3 were amazing. Words cannot explain.
My mom’s favorite was the Vesuvio (Php 495+). She told us that it tasted very similar to an authentic Italian pasta, she likes it. Mom and Dad worked in a 5-star fine dining Italian restaurant with real Italian chefs in The Caribbean for more than 15-20 years. As for someone like my mom, when she says it’s similar to authentic Italian Cuisine, it really is.
Italian sardine(Php 275+) was okay. The pasta had a nice bite to it. Good but nothing to rave about. Sardines on pasta might something unique for us yet it is worth the try.
My favorite was the Truffle Mac n’ Cheese(Php 325+). If you read my posts on this blog, I always order dishes that has truffle whenever available. Can definitely say that I am a die-hard fan of Truffle.
Mac n’ Cheese alone sounds appetizing, how about add some Truffles in it? Truly Magical.
We also ordered 3 Pizzas. It was just originally 2 though it was not enough for the 7 of us despite it was big, it was so good that I can finish one whole pizza by myself alone.
Mama Lou’s Special (Php 450+ Large) is a must-try! Light and extremely delicious. A slice is best rolled and stuffed with arugula and olive oil. My family got addicted to this pizza. Flavor bomb indeed. We got 2 Large whole pizzas of the Mama Lou’s Special.
The other one that we got is the Pizza Bianca (Php 395+ Large). Now this one tastes fine for me. Still light, crispy, and satisfying but not as good as the Mama Lou’s Special.
For protein we ordered the Rollo Di Pollo (Php 390+). Rolled breaded chicken stuffed with Mozzarella in layed on a bed of Pesto and Pomodoro sauce. Has a side of vegetables and mashed potatoes. It’s okay for me, it tasted the way I imagined it to be.
Another protein filled dish that we got was the Mozzarella Burger Steak (Php 325+). It was really juicy and tasty. Mozzarella blended nicely with the dish, mushroom sauce was great as well. This is definitely not your standard burger/salisbury steak.
For the dessert, we badly want to order the Tiramisu and Cheesecake but they were both unavailable that day. Our server recommended the Apple Pie since it was the only dessert available as we were told. Apple pie was delicate and fruity but it was a bit heavy for a dessert. We asked our server to add a greeting on the plate of the pie to celebrate our parent’s anniversary. I’m glad they did our request happily.
The only let down was the not so good treatment at the start and I really do hope that they would improve on handling customers.
Despite of what happened to us, I can still say that they are worth the try. Every dish served to us was totally worth what we payed for. Quality in its finest form.
Overall, they gave justice in proving that they serve great Italian dishes.
Adios!
